Born Jan. 14, 1925 in Gray, Somerset Cnty., PA. Graduated from Somerset HS in 1942 and entered Penn State. Served with the USA, 1944-46. Received a BS in Mining Engineering in 1947 and a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1948. Married Ruth L. (Pam) Mueller (deceased) in 1955. Children: John J. and Heather R. With Consolidation Coal Co. (now Consol Energy, Inc.) and subsidiaries in various supervisory positions at various locations in W. VA, VA, and PA, 1948-1971. President Pocahontas Fuel Co.-South Pocahontas, VA, 1966-70 VP Consolidation Coal Co., Pittsburgh, PA 1970-71. Executive VP, The Pittston Co., NYC, 1971-73. President, CEO and Board of Directors Ashland Coal, Inc., Huntington, WVA (now Arch Coal, Inc., St. Louis, MO), subsidiary of Ashland Oil, Inc., Ashland, KY (now Ashland, Inc. Covington, KY), 1974-1987 VP and executive Officer Ashland Oil, Inc., 1976-87. Retired 12/1/87 and became an international coal mining consultant, 1987-1993, Pittsburgh, PA. 1994 to present-fully retired.
